Sun Pillar

Well so far it has been a busy year and it only just started. I am taking a break from posting photos weekly and concentrating on doing some photo projects and experimenting. Here is a photo my wife Barbara took with her new Fuji X-E1. This sun pillar was pretty neat, she is still getting used the camera, but it is an improvement over her old G-10. Taken in Laguna Beach, using the 18-55mm zoom lens at 55mm. Enjoy.

The final image for this year… been a long road but a fun one. I sure hope that this coming year is better for me and for everyone else as well. This sunset was taken from Laguna Beach after a brief but intense rain storm. It was just starting to clear a little locally but then sun peaked out right as it got close to the horizon. You can see Catalina Island off in the distance. Taken with the Fuji X-Pro 1 and a Samyang 14mm lens. Enjoy and thanks for looking this year at my images, many more to come in the following year. Happy New Year everyone!

Well hope you are not tired of sunsets, I love watching them, the pastel colors and setting moon caught my eye. Watched a pod of dolphins swim by, on their way somewhere, very relaxing after a day at the job…. Fuji X-Pro1, 60mm macro. Enjoy.

After coming back from a trip we were greeted with this wonderful sunset, taken with the Fuji X-Pro 1 and 18mm lens. Handheld 3 panel panorama.

Well another glorious sunset this week, taken in Laguna Beach. The clouds started building in the afternoon and as it got closer to sunset they were not disappearing, so grabbed the camera gear and headed out and took this shot. Just before sunset there was a nice large rainbow. Shot with the Fuji X-Pro 1 and the 18mm lens on a tripod. Enjoy.

The last beacon of light for the day as the sun slowly sinks in the west. Taken in Laguna Beach, Fuji X-Pro 1, 60mm f2.4 macro at f2.4 and 1/3300 at ISO 400.

Image of the week #30

Delicate wispy clouds, softly lit by the setting sun….. this weeks subject. Taken with a Fuji X-Pro 1 and 35mm f1.4 lens at f4, 1/75 second at ISO 200.  The sun was well below the horizon and the immediate area around the horizon was muddy looking and not very interesting, but almost straight up  we ended up getting this nice soft pastel palette to finish off the day. Hope you enjoy it.

On the boardwalk at Main Beach, Laguna Beach, CA, little bit of sand, a little bit of fog and mist and just another beach morning. Taken with a Fuji X-Pro 1 with a Canon 50mm f1.4 FD lens using a Kipon adapter.

Image of the week #18

Long exposure photography can yield some interesting images even during the day, this image used a Lee Big Stopper, 10 stop ND filter in front of the Fuji 18mm lens at f16 and ISO 200 with the wonderful Fuji X-Pro 1 camera. This yielded a 15 second exposure of the incoming surf at Treasure Island in Laguna Beach, CA. There are some nice tidepools but you have to watch the incoming waves as the tide comes in, they can catch you by surprise. I did not get wet on this trip, but there were a few people there that did not watch the wave patterns! Several large waves arrived during this exposure and that leads to the misty water look during this exposure and overcast skies made for a nice even light. Hope you enjoy it.

I was watching this sunset and really liked the clouds and the layers so I grabbed the Fuji X-Pro1 and fired off a few shots. Originally I was hoping that the setting sun would illuminate the clouds and light up the sky, but it turned out it was a more subtle sunset. Even though my original thought was to get something more dramatic I am quite pleased with this sunset as the storm clouds were beginning to break up and the storm was clearing. Taken in Laguna Beach, CA. Lens was an 18mm. Enjoy.
